Can you please give us your thoughts on the SMD foilsensors?
The SMD foilsensors are the result of a long development process that began in the search for a simpler, design-free and more sustainable integration of sensors into products. With a size of only 7.60mm x 5.60mm and an active measuring area of Ø2.5mm, they are small, handy and extremely versatile. These sensors enable easy and precise measurement of a wide range of parameters, including pH, temperature and bioparameters, making them particularly attractive for applications in areas such as medical technology, biotechnology and the food industry.
In terms of functionality, the SMD foilsensors are based on printed sensor technology. Thanks to the self-adhesive films, we simplify implementation in or on a wide variety of surfaces. Thanks to our innovative technology, the sensors are ready-to-use and can be used in various applications without additional preparation.
What are the costs and availability of SMD foilsensors?
We are currently in small series production of our SMD foilsensors, and the price per unit is €9. However, we are aiming to reduce the cost of the sensors to less than €1 per unit in series production. This would allow us to make the sensors widely available and promote their use in a variety of applications. In this way, together with our partner network, we would like to reduce the market entry costs of accensors’ customers and shorten the development time of their products.
Thanks to this price advantage and the simple integration, we are able to reduce the development costs and duration for our customers. As a result, we enable the product owner to reach the break-even point in development much earlier and thus generate sales more quickly.
How did the development of these sensors come about?
It all started with the question of how sensors can be integrated more easily into products without compromising on functionality. We realized that conventional methods are often complicated and inflexible. So we set out to develop a solution that would meet these challenges.
How did the development process and the market launch of the sensors go?
We presented the first prototypes of the SMD foil sensors at Sensor+Test in May 2023. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and we decided to further improve the sensors and put them into production. One year later, in March, we produced the first small series of ion-selective sensors and reference electrodes, which met with great interest from our customers.
What is planned for the future of SMD foilsensors?
We are continuously working on the further development of our sensors and strive to expand our portfolio to include additional parameters. Various parameters are currently already available, including sodium, pH and potassium. The product portfolio of ion selective sensors is to be further expanded. How about parameters such as magnesium and calcium, for example? We also have biochemical (lactate, creatinine) and physical sensors (temperature) in the pipeline, which will be launched in the near future.
Do you also offer sensors other than your SMD foilsensors?
In addition to the standard portfolio of SMD foilsensors, we offer our customers the option of developing customized, individual sensors.
